Beschreibung
On his stirring final journey, covering three months, the Buddha instructs his disciples on the elements needed to keep the Dhamma strong and stresses the importance of putting his teaching into practice. The translation of the Mahāparinibbāna Sutta offered here is a work of collaboration. It is based upon a text prepared by Sister Vajirā of Germany; the final revision is by Mr. Francis Story and the notes and references have been contributed by Nyanaponika Mahāthera—much of the material for them being taken from the Pāli Commentary. The greater part of the sutta is a straightforward narrative, but it also includes references to profound aspects of the Dhamma that have to be understood in their precise meaning if the full import of the Buddha’s last exhortations is to be conveyed.
